We love to see them in the Ronnie Hoare Trophy here at Goodwood during the Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport, but good lord, is it cool to see a Porsche 904 being given a good flogging out on the road. In many ways, it’s the perfect sportscar for modern day driving. Not too fast, super compliant, super elegant – it’s like an Alpine A110 (the modern one). If only Porsche would take the same approach to sportscars for the modern era, but we digress…

Let’s drink in the sights and sounds of this delightful 904, with its Guards Red exterior appointment contrasting gloriously with a gloomy autumn forest scene. The sound of its flat-four engine popping, crackling, dancing up and down the revs as the driver blips and flips through the gears. It’s pure music, even with just the four pots. If only the current Porsche 718 with its boxer-four could sound this good.
