Towards the end of 2022 it was confirmed that the Ford Fiesta would be pulled from production, bringing an end to the car’s almost 40-year lifespan. It’s a stark a reflection of the current global mindset of the motoring industry that small superminis are no longer the big sellers they once were. Ford expects to see the Puma become it’s headline act as the manufacturer heads towards an electric future, and so there is no longer a place for the Fiesta. Sad days.

Perhaps even sadder, though, is that this also means the end is nigh for possibly the world’s best hot hatch, the Ford Fiesta ST. The obvious question is: how can that be? Well, the answer is simply that Ford is going all out for sales, and the Fiesta ST despite its quality, will never be the brand’s biggest seller. It’s expendable, and so Ford has discarded it.
But, regardless of all the talk of profitability and sustainability, the Fiesta ST is a car that helped to put Ford into the highest echelons of motoring fame. A car that has consistently fought off the challenge of Vauxhall, Hyundai, Mini, Volkswagen, Peugeot, Renault and the rest. A car we are going to miss. A lot.
