Hillclimb Roadtest: Megane Renaultsport 275 Trophy

It was planning last weekend’s Hot Hatch Sunday Breakfast Club that focused GRR’s attention on rapid Renaults. Or more accurately an argument here in the GRR office over which might be the most engaging hot hatch that today’s money could buy.

Fond memories of recent Renaultsport Clio iterations had us picking up the phone to the Renault UK press office, albeit with a hint of trepidation in the light of reviews suggesting the latest model has lost a bit of that gleeful ‘old-school’ va-va-voom.

Well, we needn’t have worried about all that, as the Renault press office didn’t have a 200 Turbo to lend us. (Well, we do like to hang these things together at the last minute…)

So would we like a Megane Coupe Renaultsport 275 Trophy to pit against the famous Goodwood Hillclimb course instead?

Proffered hand duly bitten-off, we slotted the Megane into our old vs. new Hot Hatch retrospective video. You can watch that here.

And then at the end of the day’s filming we told GRR’s favourite-rent-a-world-class-racing-driver Nic Minassian (don’t tell Anthony Reid – he’s very conpetitive!) to go and give it a proper thrashing.

As ever we didn’t time proceedings on the day, but you can see how fast the 275 Trophy went by checking out our Hillclimb Roadtest leader board.
