The Le Mans style start of the Barry Sheene Memorial race is vital for a good race, and it was Duncan Fitchett who was on his Manx Norton 500 and away first. As the race settled, and riders were changed, it came to a close finish between the Duncan Fitchett/Jeremy McWilliams Norton and the Mike Edwards/James Haydon Matchlett. In fact, they were almost line astern past the chequered flag, as you can see in the race highlights video.
