Video: Meet The World's Most Expensive Car (In Euros)
Following a huge amount of pre-auction hype, French auctioneer Artcurial’s sale at Retromobile last Friday evening set a new auction value record in Euros, with the sale of the ex-works Ferrari 1957 335 S Spider.
In a packed and overly excited auction sale room, the 335 S – driven in period by Mike Hawthorn and Stirling Moss, among others – realised a huge €28million (£21,532,000), a new Euro record price for a Ferrari, which is not surprising, given that this is not only one of the most significant sports-racing Ferraris in existence, but arguably also one of the most desirable cars to come to auction in the 21st century.
Another significant Ferrari in the Artcurial auction, a one-off Testarossa Spider, built exclusively for the head of Fiat – Gianni Agnelli – in 1986, achieved an astonishing hammer price of 1.02m euros as well at the same sale.
