Production‑ready NIO ES8 SUV revealed
The new mass-production car, available only in China at launch, will be called the ES8, and is a seven-seater "high-performance" electric SUV.
The SUV has an aluminium body and chassis, active air suspension and front and rear motors for all-wheel drive. Nio describes the "design identity" of the car as having the family "X-bar and signature Spark Beat tail lights". While the ES8 will be built for the Chinese market only, it's worth keeping an eye on, because Nio is a truly global start-up, with a German design centre, an autonomous-car public testing licence in California and engineering capabilities in the UK. The company has a strong presence in Formula E, and backers include Sequoia Capital, Lenovo and Tencent.
The Nio EP9 electric hypercar, which is now available to order, will cost 1.48m USD.
