First Drive: Rolls‑Royce Cullinan

On an ancient bluff overlooking a vast grassland valley, with the snowy Teton mountain range on the other side, perches the Amangani, an extraordinary hotel, carved from redwood and local stone. Vast, double-height windows frame the valley floor of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where the average annual income of the top one per cent is $28 million. A fitting pad then, for the launch of the Cullinan, “the Rolls-Royce of SUVs”, not only because of the local economy, but also because of the design aesthetic adopted by this magnificent hotel, where the exquisite raw materials are delicately framed by clever craftsmanship but left to shine by themselves. There’s an original honesty in the look, smell and touch of the hotel’s design that echoes the sentiment shaped by the engineers and designers at Goodwood, Rolls-Royce’s home.
