Thanks for the memories Frankie

It was, after all, at Goodwood where it really all began for the legendary Italian rider with his first winner on Lizzy Hare as a 16-year-old apprentice in 1987 for Newmarket trainer Luca Cumani, and he soon went on to become the first teenager since Lester Piggott to ride 100 winners in a season.
Since then, he has become one of the most famous jockeys of all time, racking up dozens of Group 1 races around the world, including the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe a record six times, 14 Breeders’ Cup successes, four Dubai World Cup victories and the Epsom Derby twice.

He was British flat champion jockey three times in 1994, 1995 and 2004, and who can forget that afternoon at Ascot in September 1996 when he went through the card, riding all seven winners.
Will we see his famous flying dismount in the winner’s enclosure at Goodwood yet again?. It has to be long odds-on that we will, and it will be a fabulous way for Frankie, who has given to many Goodwood racegoers so much pleasure over the years, to sign off the time he has spent with us since that first win on British soil 36 years ago.
