Frankie Dettori took to the skies in the feature race again on the second day of the Qatar Goodwood Festival, as he jumped off Sussex Stakes hero, Too Darn Hot, via his customary flying dismount. Trained by John Gosden and owned by Lord Andrew Lloyd-Webber, the electric three-year-old stepped up once again to win his third Group 1 and first at the mile distance.

Too Darn Hot flies home in the £1 million Qatar Sussex Stakes
He beat the last-minute entry Circus Maximus by half a length, with I Can Fly a further length-and-a-quarter back in third in a thrilling renewal of the race dubbed the ‘Duel on the Downs.’
Gosden said after the race: "The horse [Too Darn Hot] has come right now, and he's proven that being a champion two-year-old was no fluke.”
Dettori said: "Too Darn Hot is very good. My god he has so much speed - I can't feel my arms at the moment! He is just blessed with so much natural speed. It was great to reverse the form of Ascot and the race worked out how we wanted. They tried to stretch my stamina today, but I just had too many guns for them. Too Darn Hot got the big one today, which he really deserved. He has been unlucky for various reasons this year, but now he has showed his true colours and we are delighted.
He is a wonderful horse with a wonderful pedigree and deserved a proper G1, which we all thought he had in him. I am so lucky that I work for Clarehaven [Stables]. We have an amazing team, it is a pleasurable place to work, and amazing horses trained by a genius of a trainer.”
Too Darn Hot has since been retired following his excellent Sussex Stakes win, and will go to stud to hopefully produce the next generation of sensational Goodwood winners.
