Goodwood Estate - Press Article

Hundreds of dogs and their owners took a spin around Goodwood’s motor circuit on Sunday raising nearly £3,500 for its chosen charity Canine Partners UK.

It was the first ever charity dog walk on the historic track, which usually the hosts the Goodwood Revival and the Sunday morning Breakfast Clubs.

Motorsport stars such as Sir Stirling Moss, Jackie Stewart and Jim Clark, have all raced around the 2.4 mile circuit. Instead this time, there were dogs of all shapes and sizes: Airedale Terriers, Beagles. Cocker Spaniels, Schnauzers, Cockapoos, Retrievers, Dalmatians, Springer Spaniels, Border Terriers and Boxers taking the lead.

Tracey Greaves, Goodwood’s Chief Commercial Officer said: “It was a pawfect day, the turnout was amazing. We had more than 200 four-legged friends padding around the motor circuit in the sunshine to support our chosen charity, which partners assistance dogs with people who have physical disabilities to bring greater independence. The dog walk is the latest of our fantastic fund-raising events across the Goodwood estate this year to enable more puppies to be sponsored for the specialist two-year training dog programme.”

Some of the Canine Partners and their assistance dogs also attended to talk to people about the work of the charity and there was entertainment from the Chichester City Band.

Canine Partners receives no government funding and relies solely on donations from the public to continue its life-transforming work. Puppies are selected for training at seven to eight weeks old and spend 12 to 14 months in puppy training with a volunteer, followed by four months’ advanced training at one of the charity’s centres. The dogs bring greater independence and quality of life to their human partners, offering security, companionship and practical help with everyday household tasks.
