Ex-BTCC champion Andy Jordan signs up as house captain at Goodwood 74th Members' Meeting

Former British Touring Car Champion, Andy Jordan, will make his debut as a House Captain at this year’s 74th Goodwood Members’ Meeting (March 19/20).

The 26-year old, who won the coveted BTCC title in 2013, will replace fiery Frenchman Nicolas Minassian, who was due to captain the Aubigny house but will now be racing in the 12 Hours of Sebring in the USA on the same weekend.

Unlike most motor racing events, drivers are grouped into four ‘houses’ for whom they score points during the course of the weekend. Visitors can even score points for their chosen house by taking part in various off-track games.

Jordan will race in the Alan Mann Trophy, for pre-1966 Ford GT40s, as well as a Mini 1275GT in the Gerry Marshall Trophy for the iconic Group 1 touring cars of the late 1970s and early ‘80s at the exclusive Members’ Meeting and is relishing the chance to lead his house to victory.

"To be asked to be a house captain is something I am very proud of,” he said: “I love the events Goodwood puts on and, to now be a part of the fantastic Members’ Meeting is very exciting. We are all drivers and very competitive, so the main aim is to have our house win; that said, I am sure we will all have some fun with great racing along the way."

Created by Goodwood owner, Lord March, to recreate the atmosphere and camaraderie of the original BARC Members’ Meetings held at Goodwood Motor Circuit in the 1950s and ‘60s, the Goodwood Members’ Meeting conjures up some of the most evocative sights and sounds from the golden era of motor racing.

The 2016 Members’ Meeting will feature 11 races for a huge range of historic cars and, for the first time ever, motorcycles; three high-speed demonstration runs will also celebrate some of the most iconic racing cars in the sport’s varied history.

As well as the action on the famous Goodwood Motor Circuit, the Members’ Meeting features a huge range of attractions for all the family off-track, including an exclusive event on Saturday evening and a wide variety of food and entertainment on offer throughout.

A fairground, live music and a series of games in which visitors can score additional points for their chosen ‘house’ complete the carnival atmosphere.
