Tyre-Frying Action on Day Four

26 June 2016

The final day of the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed is underway and promises more thrills and drama as befits our central theme: The Endless Pursuit of Power. This morning saw the return of the drift kings to the Hill, American star Vaughn Gittin Jr sliding his 900bhp Ford Mustang with tyre-shredding abandon. Not to be outdone, James Deane steered his 800bhp Toyota-powered Nissan 200SX on its bump-stops, while ‘Mad’ Mike Whidett was jaw-droppingly brave as only he knows how in his Mazda FD RX-7. The Kiwi star took Lord March for a spin – literally and figuratively - on Saturday and both men enjoyed every minute.

Festival favourite, Formula One World Championship points leader Nico Rosberg, will be out in action later on today, while there will be two timed shoot-outs this afternoon: one for the overall fastest time of the day, and another just for British Touring Car Championship drivers. Expect fireworks as bragging rights are at stake. A winner will also be crowned in the hotly-contested Cartier “Style et Luxe” concours d’elegance.
