Golf At Goodwood Juniors celebrate more success
Max Herring won the Sussex Boys U15 Championship, Jamie Burchell finished with the best gross score at the Sussex U13’s Championship and the Junior Team topped the West Sussex Junior League South to reach the regional final.
Herring made the journey down to West Hove Golf Club for the Sussex boys U15 Championship on Thursday 24 August. With near perfect weather conditions, the organisers were expecting some low scores and they were not disappointed.
Plenty of players were in contention for the coveted Dick George Trophy, which has been won by Golf At Goodwood ambassador Marco Penge four times. During a well-considered round of golf Max plotted his way around the course by opting for position off the tee rather than distance. The deciding moment came on the long par three 17th hole where Max put his tee shot within 5ft of the pin and slotted home the putt for a birdie to become the Champion. A fantastic achievement and round to come out ahead of the pack with a gross 73 (+3).
Jamie Burchell finished with the best gross score at the Sussex U13’s Championship on Wednesday 16 August at Lindfield Golf Club. The standard was higher than ever with Golf At Goodwood's Harry Callow runner-up in the nett competition cruelly missing out by just one stroke.
Our Golf At Goodwood Junior Team have also finished top of the West Sussex Junior League (South). A third place finish at Ham Manor Golf Club in the final event of the year was enough to secure a place in the regional final at the end of September.
The Golf At Goodwood Academy supports the progress of our Juniors from an early age starting with our Junior Camps, through to Level-up courses to then being given the opportunity to take part in our Junior Leagues. PGA Professional and Junior Sussex Development Coach, Craig Gardner said: “At Goodwood we believe in trying to create the right environment for our juniors. We are very proud of the juniors for all the hard work they have put in the becoming better golfers and they are now beginning to reap the rewards from their hard work. The many successes that our juniors have had this year only helps to show what a great place Goodwood is for Junior Golf.”
