Ladies Division 3 Team finish Runners‑Up in Inter‑Club Divisional Finals
The ladies team boasted an unbeaten run in the group stages of the 2017 SCLGA Interclub Division Championship beating, Highwoods, Mid Sussex, Cowdray and Sweetwoods Park both home and away. The team's incredible run saw them qualify as winners of Group E with 16 points, an unbelievable eight points clear of runners-up, Highwoods Golf Club.
The quarter-finals were played on 14th July at Piltdown Golf Club, where Golf At Goodwood took on local team, Chichester Golf Club who won group B with a very respectable 10 points. Once again, Goodwood emerged victorious and immediately set their sights on the Semi-Finals.
On a horrendously wet day, at Seaford Golf Club, the semi-final team led by Captain, Frances Cheney faced Willingdon Golf Club. Another victory for the ladies meant a final at Cowdray Golf on Monday 21 August against Royal Ashdown Forest.
All four divisions played their final on the same day, starting with Division 1 in the earliest tee time. Golf At Goodwood’s team consisted of Frances Cheney, Annie Cater, Susan Marks, Lorraine Dunabin, Brenda Henderson, Amanda Townshend and Jill Richardson. The team was lead out by Cater who managed to secure an early point for Goodwood.
Susan Marks battled hard in a match taken all the way to the 18th green but the point was snatched by her opponent. With scores tied at 1-1, attention turned to Frances Cheney who strode confidently down the 18th fairway with a one hole lead over her opponent.
Meanwhile, Lorraine Dunabin and Amanda Townshend struggled to keep their respective opponents brilliant short games at bay with both matches won by Royal Ashdown Forest. Cheney won her match, after gaining a hole back on 16th, Brenda also fell victim to her opponents fantastic and timely drive on 17th which clinched the game. Unfortunately, Jill Richardson, who was two up at the 17th tee was called in for lunch as Royal Ashdown Forest had claimed enough points to make them victorious.
The Division 3 Squad who have all contributed to this wonderfully successful season, also includes Judy Manktelow, Jan Spicer, Jill Gill, Anita White, Judy Saxon, Maggie Hedley, Sarah Ferrier, and Marilyn Humphrey.
