Movember Madness
The Movember Foundation is a global charity committed to men living healthier lives. Since 2003 they have funded over 1,000 projects focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and physical inactivity. Throughout November, committee members grew their beards and moustaches, turning themselves into walking, talking billboards for men’s health.
The format of the event was foursomes with a twist as each tee time hosted three pairs, creating a rare opportunity for six golfers to play their round together. Pairs played alternate strokes and were given opportunities to win spot prizes on the course as well as the incredibly difficult to judge ‘Best Mo In Show’ which was awarded to the most impressive moustache, real or fake.
Nearest The Pin prizes were picked up by Sheila Shapiro (8th), Kevin Bloomer (12th), Martin Ma (16a) and Lattana Hextall (17th). For a foursomes event, on a cold, windy day, scoring was impressive; Lee Cooksey and Ian Montgomery narrowly missed out on 3rd place via count-back to Martin Green and Jeremy Mears, each with 33 stableford points. Second place was clinched by Peter Griffin and Lattana Hextall with 34 points but 1st place was won by Steve Fallick and Keith Meredith with an incredible score of 39 points.
Best Mo In Show was not easy for Lara Johnson and Robin Irving to judge. Special mentions must go to Martin Newark’s ‘walrus’, David McIntosh’s ‘handlebars’ and to John McGregor who, for the coming weeks, can most likely be found trying to remove blue glitter from his entire beard. The award, a moustache clad bottle of wine, was awarded to Mike Walsh who surprised everyone with a black,‘monkey tail’ design. Due to the wild shaping, Mike will now have to remove the beard he has proudly donned for the past 20 years.
