Summer Scratch Knockout
Both players had to see off tough opponents to get to the final, with Porter having defeated Michael Anderson and Lavington victorious against Nick Tull in the semi-finals.
As expected, the match was very tight with very little between two very solid players with nothing to separate them for the opening ten holes. An unfortunate three-putt by Lavington on the 11th green handed Porter a one-up lead; however, Lavington soon levelled the match with a fine birdie on 14.
Two solid pars on 15 followed before Lavington hit a poor approach to 16 which would cost him a bogey six and hand Porter another one up lead. At this stage, Porter had pared his last 13 holes and was looking as solid as ever.
Two excellent shots into the 17th resulted in two pars, and the match went to the 18th, where Lavington needed to hole a 10ft putt to take the game back down the first in a play-off. The putt slid by the hole meaning Porter had successfully defended his title winning the match one up on the 18th. It was a particularly impressive performance, with both players only missing four greens each in some testing conditions.
Congratulations Dave on a fantastic win!
