YOUR HOUND LODGE EXPERIENCE
After a hectic working period invite your colleagues to spend some time away from it all with a golfing break at Goodwood’s private country retreat, Hound Lodge. Goodwood is home to one of the oldest golf courses in Sussex, designed originally for the pleasure of the seventh Duke of Richmond’s golf-mad children by James Braid in 1914,who also designed Gleneagles and Carnoustie, the Downs Course has been described as the finest Downland course in Britain.
Directly opposite Hound Lodge, it rises steeply from the clubhouse up towards the racecourse high on the South Downs and offers dramatic changes in elevation, fast running fairways and plenty of challenges for even the most experienced golfer. The views over the South Downs and across Chichester and the Isle of Wight are truly spectacular.
The Parks course is a gentler option, although still presents some challenges, within a picturesque parkland setting surrounding Goodwood House through tree-lined fairways to closely guarded greens. Arrive early in the morning as the mist rises above the South Downs, the car valet will park your car while you and your guests enjoy a relaxed breakfast at our private clubhouse, The Kennels, of which you have unlimited access during your stay. The Hound Lodge butler will hand deliver a picnic hamper for you to enjoy on course, either with a bottle of champagne or Goodwood ale which can be kept in the wicker coolers within our famous Woody golf buggies.
These iconic customised carts, based on a 1934 design by the nineth Duke of Richmond, offer a unique golfing experience.
Return to Hound Lodge and enjoy drinks by the fire or on the terrace, before an intimate dinner in the impressive dining room with dishes inspired by the organic produce from Goodwood Home Farm After, relax in the drawing room perhaps play cards or board games, enjoying your favourite drinks from the bar. Breakfast the following day will be relaxed, served from sideboards in the dining room for you to enjoy in your own time before another fantastic day out on the course.
The Hound Lodge butler and chef will make sure you and your guests are discreetly taken care of at all times, leaving you free to enjoy every moment.
The service is warm yet understated, just like staying in the very smartest house parties
of the nineteenth century. To assist with the planning and organising of your stay, our very
own Event Planner will be there to guide you through making the most of all Goodwood has
to offer and ensuring your stay is everything you want it to be.
