It's hard keeping up the motivation to exercise, especially when the mornings and evenings are still cold and dark. Our suggestion? Sign yourself up to take part in an event!

Challenge yourself this year!
There's nothing that focuses the mind quite like an impending public fitness event. The desire not to be last should help to spur you on to train beforehand, and the sense of achievement that you will experience as you put that finisher's medal on will instantly make you want to sign up for another.
Here is our selection of events taking place in the local area this year.
1. Chichester 10K, Sunday 3rd February
Starting and finishing at the Goodwood Motor Circuit, this is a great way to get your running year off to a flying start! Hurry, though, as the organisers tell us that places are now very limited.
2. Bognor Prom 10K, Sunday 19th May
A beautiful route along the Bognor esplanade and a very popular race. Make sure you register early as places do fill up!
3. Dallaglio RugbyWorks Track Fest cycling event, Sunday 9th June
The Goodwood Motor Circuit will be bustling with a family fun day and cycling race programme all day, in aid of this inspirational charity. Three glorious sportive routes will take in the beautiful roads and landscapes in and around the South Downs National Park after completing a lap of the Goodwood Motor Circuit.
4. Portsmouth Pretty Muddy Race for Life, Saturday 6th July
Raise money for Cancer Research whilst having fun at this 5K obstacle race!
5. Chichester Triathlon, Sunday 14th July
Not as scary as it sounds: you can sign up for lots of different events, from the full, Olympic distance triathlon to combinations of the three events over shorter distances. Plus team entries are allowed, so two or three people can split the event between them.
6. The Goodwood 5 Mile Hillclimb Run, Wednesday 14th August
Our own public running event: join us to tackle the Goodwood hillclimb! We start with a children's run, followed by the adult event, including classes for Nordic walkers and people who would like to run with their dogs (weather permitting!). Watch our website for registration details in the Spring!
7. The Great South Run, Sunday 20th October
The biggest run in the South of England, with unparalleled support along every step of the 10 mile route. Run through the Historic Dockyard, Old Portsmouth, past Gunwharf Quays and finish along the seafront. Worth every minute of training!
8. The Portsmouth Coastal Festive Half Marathon, Sunday 22nd December
Finish off your year in style! Famous for offering everything from mulled wine and mince pies at water stops and bottles of beer at the finish line, and for the best finishers' medals of ANY sporting event, this organiser pulls out all the stops. You'll have earned every single mince pie and Quality Street over Christmas after completing this race, and can legitimately put your feet up whilst you proudly survey your collection of medals.
