Arrive to tea and homemade cake ready and waiting in the drawing room, served by our butler. Later, perhaps take a walk through the flint and brick arches of the courtyard into the ancient woodland of the Valdoe, or explore some of the picturesque parkland of the Estate by foot or on one of our bikes.

Return to Hound Lodge and enjoy a few drinks before an intimate Christmas Eve supper. If you wish, you will be driven by our butler to Midnight Mass or any of the Christmas church services at Chichester Cathedral, which is over 900 years old and one of the oldest in England. Wake to the serenity of a winter scene, perhaps the Sussex countryside will be sprinkled with snow. Begin the day with a relaxing breakfast.

Christmas day promises to be a convivial affair with a traditional lunch in the splendid dining room. After, put your feet up in the drawing room in front of the Queen’s Speech or play cards or board games, enjoying your favourite drinks from the bar. Try our Gin Trolley, where you get to sample both local and renowned gins combined with exquisite flavours for a unique tasting and pairing experience.

Christmas will be magical for any little ones coming to stay with plenty of special treats, vintage stockings hung above the fireplace for Christmas day and traditional story books to be read aloud evoking nostalgic memories. Dogs are warmly welcomed to Hound Lodge and will be made to feel at home with the choice of a plush dog basket and their own enamel engraved dog bowl available during their stay. There is plenty to keep you and your four-legged guests entertained, whether it’s a walk in the private forest, or simply lazing by the fire, dogs, and their owners, are warmly welcomed at Hound Lodge. 

The Hound Lodge butler and chef will make sure you and your guests are discreetly taken care of at all times, leaving you free to enjoy every moment. The service is warm yet understated, just like staying in the very smartest house parties of the nineteenth century. Take to the skies in a helicopter from the Goodwood Aerodrome to Battersea, and enjoy a West End show or pantomime, before returning to the warmth and comfort of Hound Lodge.

For the more active, make the most of the stunning views of the Sussex countryside and experience a traditional clay-pigeon shoot. Lungful’s of fresh air, good exercise and sloe gin followed by lunch at the nearby Shooting Lodge.
