Meet the Team: Christopher Goldring
What is your job role here at Goodwood?
My title is ‘Wellbeing Host’. I deal primarily with the events that we run alongside our regular timetable of classes. Finding and bringing in the best people in the industry to put in front of our members. Part of my role encompasses the managing and running of our 5 Mile Hillclimb Run event, this is in aid of our Goodwood Charity partner, currently Dementia Support.
What do you enjoy about working at the Health Club?
Alongside my job, I am also a personal trainer and class instructor. This can be extremely rewarding helping our members push themselves to their fitness goals. I enjoy devising exciting and challenging workouts and classes, I am sure many of you reading this have a great memory of a workout from my vault of exercises/routines!
Beyond that, I enjoy being part of the Health & Wellbeing community alongside my colleagues and our members. It has been a pleasure to get to know everyone that I have met from our membership base and made it much easier to do my job knowing that I have been able to get to know the people I am working with on a daily basis.
What kind of sports/fitness/wellbeing do you enjoy?
I started my wellbeing journey at age six when I entered my first dance class. This ignited my passion for movement and exercise. I am thankful to have been able to travel the world in my career and have learned and experienced things that enable me to tailor my workouts to suit each member and help to understand everyone’s requirements from their membership.
Alongside this, I enjoy the opportunity to watch rugby and recently had the opportunity to watch NFL American Football when it came to the UK last October. I also love the opportunity to bring some of those sport-specific exercises into my classes and personal training sessions at Goodwood.
The outside spaces around the estate provide great opportunities to exercise outside and it is always rewarding to deliver a class or personal training session in our garden studio.
What is the most unusual thing you’ve ever had to do here at Goodwood?
My job brings a lot of unusual moments with it. Some of the things I have done in my time here include bringing goats in for goat yoga sessions, putting paddleboards on the swimming pool, assembling aerial rigs, filling ice baths early in the morning and then ending up emptying them on myself later that day, but I think the best has been coordinating a class of members and dogs for doglates!
All of these enable our members to access a plethora of classes and opportunities to support their wellbeing in a fun and enjoyable way.
What does Health & Wellbeing mean to you?
To me, health and wellbeing encompasses everything about my day-to-day. The ability to be around great people. To be able to utilise amazing spaces for exercise, accessing a wide array of classes, facilities and services to support me both physically and mentally.
