[Video] An emotional goodbye to the Porsche 919
This year sees the latest of 19 Le Mans-dominating Porsche dynasties bow out. After the longest top-level sportscar sabbatical since their first win in 1970, Porsche deployed the 919 LMP1 in 2014 to take back top honors at the world’s greatest motor race.
It wouldn’t complete that mission until the following year but would sustain its dominance through 2017 at both La Sarthe and in the World Endurance Championship – three more victories on an already world-class tally, putting them back on the top spot. Now, the 919 has been put out to pasture, joining its legendary predecessors in the hallowed halls of the Porsche museum. It’s arguably Porsche’s greatest achievement given the scale of the technical undertaking and the strides forward they’ve taken from the project. Goodbye 919. It’s been a short but sweet run of dominance and if we know Porsche, we reckon they’ll be back before too long.
