[Video] Australia's newest racing track is awesome
We all know what Australians love in motorsport: hairy V8s, incline changes, and old school challenging tracks. So you'll be pleased to hear that the newest circuit down under conforms to everything that a true Aussie would like.
The Bend (weird name, great track), in the small town of Tailem Bend in South Australia is the newest circuit in Australia and is now the second longest permanent track in the world (behind the Nürburgring Nordschleife as you may have guessed). Next year Aussie V8 Supercars will show up for the first time to race, but for the time being the new circuit is the playground of our friends at Porsche. So much so that, with the tarmac barely dry, they have already taken the circuit's production car record.
Warren Luff is not a big name on these shores – but in Australia he's a Porsche Carrera Cup challenger and multiple Bathurst 1,000 podium finisher. He's now also the owner of The Bend's lap record after dispatching all 35 corners of the 7.7km circuit in just 3min 24sec at the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT2 RS. Impressive.
