[Video] Insane single-seater hill climb in Italy | GRR
Ah 2018, a time when we could gather in crowds in foreign countries and enjoy wonderfully unbridled motorsport events…
While we’re seriously pining for that freedom once more, we’re relying on YouTube to hold the fort until normality resumes. And somewhere back in the archives, we’ve stumbled upon this incredible hillclimb run, courtesy of Scott Moran at the FIA Hillclimb Masters in 2018.
Forget the first minute or so of idleness and tune in from 1:25 and watch as Moran wrestles his Gould GR61X NME up the snaking mountain pass in Gubbio, Italy. In footage so fast it appears sped up, marvel with us as he smoothly navigates the countless curves and cambers. There’s no margin for error here, nor any sense of self-preservation apparently. And it makes for the most incredible watching.
This seems like the fastest hillclimb runs we’ve ever seen, but somehow it only placed 10th on the day, with Moran achieving a 1:23.47 run up the 3.31km (2.06mile) course, almost six seconds off the winning pace. He was, however, silver in his class.
