It’s easy to feel very doom and gloom about the coming of the electric age if you’re an aficionado of effervescent internal combustion engines. No matter how fast they are, EVs can’t authentically evoke the same feelings a chuntering, spluttering, howling V12 can. That said, we have to appreciate the upsides. In terms of driving dynamics, a supercar with an infinitely variable all-wheel-drive system has the potential to be very fun indeed. The Rimac Nevera is a case in point.
With a motor at each wheel, it can send up to 500PS (368kW) at any moment to any wheel it chooses. In the case of its run up the Hill at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, those were the rears, at least for the launch. The rest of the way? It’s daring drifts and insane acceleration, as the elegant form of the Nevera tears its way up the Hill. A beautiful thing with serious performance, telling of the possibilities that come with electric power.
