The four most weird and wonderful wagons from Estate Car Sunday
The first Goodwood Breakfast Club of 2019 will be remembered as a wet and windy affair. Thankfully, there were lots of wagon weapons on show to keep spirits up, not to mention a selection of the weird and wonderful including these four interesting estates…
Tesla Model S Estate
Yep. It’s the world’s quickest estate car. And we had it parked up on the Goodwood grid with its custom-made carbon fibre rear end making it 14kg lighter than the standard car. Created by British engineering firm Qwest, the Model S estate claims to have identical performance to the Model S with a 0-62mph time of 2.8 seconds – making this the quickest estate car on sale, beating the previous champ, the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Turbo S E-Hybrid (a car that also featured on the grid). Mean and modern.
Volvo Amazon
Introduced in 1962 the Volvo Amazon station wagon was one of the oldest and rarest estates on show at Goodwood Breakfast Club. A classic estate platform whose design can be traced right up to more modern Volvo wagons, including the V70, still looks classy and practical, with roof racks and a two-piece tailgate. Aren’t estate Volvos just fantastic machines?
Autobianchi Panoramica
An Italian take on the station wagon by AutoBianchi, the Panoramica is small, boxy, and not all that practical looking. Think a Mini Clubman mixed with a Fiat 500 and you’re halfway there. Still, it’s a pretty little thing to look at, and one of the more ‘sophisticated’ examples on show. Don’t expect the fit the sofa in the back with ease, mind.
Volkswagen Golf CL
You wanted weird. And this is weird. A VW Golf CL littered with more oddities and kitsch paraphernalia than an East London Gastropub. We’re used to seeing roof racks at Estate Car Sunday, but one loaded with shopping baskets, a case of beer and a couple of caged dead rats? Nah. Not so used to seeing that.
