[Video] 2023 Hailwood Trophy part 2 highlights | 80MM
A mixture of two- and four-stroke motorcycles took to the Goodwood Motor Circuit for the Hailwood Trophy, and this video brings you the highlights from part two of the fixture. The two-wheelers add yet another layer of variety to the 80th Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport. Watching heroic motorcycle riders get their knees down on the circuit’s fast sweeping bends is never less than awe-inspiring.
The grid comprised 250cc and 350cc grand prix motorcycles that competed up to 1983 and Formula 750 motorcycles that competed up to 1978. The earliest machines on the grid hailed from 1971, and the two riders engaged in the closest battle were on machines from the early 1970s.
The battle for the lead came down to Andy Hornby aboard his 1071 RPS Triumph Trident and Graham Higlett working with his 1971 Triumph T150. They crossed the line within 0.3 seconds of each other, with the advantage to Hornby. Mike Rutter was keeping a watching brief but never able to capitalise on his close proximity.
Victory went to the newer end of the scale. Nobody had an answer to Scott Carson aboard his 1981 Yamaha TZ350G who crossed the line 4.1 seconds ahead of the similar machine being ridden by Dan Jackson.
