[Video]: Corvette obliterates Japan’s Tsukuba Circuit
Bored vegetating at home alone with nothing but a big screen for company? Then set your sympathy glands to ‘minimal’ as we join Feras Qartoumy for a lap around Japan’s Tsukuba Circuit behind the wheel of his 1,318PS (969kW), twin-turbocharged C6 Chevrolet Corvette.
As Qartoumy breezily notes in the video's description: "Fresh off the boat from World Time Attack in Australia, we went to Japan to test around the legendary Tsukuba. I didn't know what condition the car would be in after racing in Australia and soon found lots of issues and repairs to make."
What sorts of issues? Slight bodywork damage? Minor adjustment to the furry dice? Oh, just little things like the traction control not working.
Driving a car in condition unknown (but presumed not great), you'd expect Qartoumy to ease the car into its shakedown, bringing everything up to temperature, progressively building speed, feeling his way around its various ailments before returning to the pit for remedial work to begin at pace. Or you could hoof it and hope for the best.
A man after our hearts, Qartoumy bats for the second approach and what follows is an extraordinary demonstration of how devastatingly quick a twin-turbocharged Corvette can be as it obliterates any JDM fodder that dares to share a track with it.
With a nuclear button doubling as an accelerator pedal, Qartoumy does a remarkable job of bustling the big V8 around a 1.6-mile track that it was hardly designed for, basking in a soundtrack that would make most road-going turbos duck their heads in shame.
