Suzuki launches A2 licence-friendly GSX-S950 | GRR
Suzuki has announced the new GSX-S950, an A2 compliant version of its popular GSX-S1000, which will feature the same torquey 999cc inline-four, twin-spar aluminium frame and the superbike-derived swingarm and shock.
Boasting 95PS (70kW) and 92Nm (68lb ft) of peak torque in standard trim (down from 152PS, or 112kW, and 106Nm, or 78lb ft), the GSX-S950 can be restricted to 47PS (35kW) – the upper limit for an A2 permissible machine. Despite the drop in peak power and torque, it will retain the torque-rich midrange and the slip and assist clutch, allowing young riders to live the full super naked experience.
To bring the bike down to an affordable price point, Suzuki has fitted 43mm KYB front forks and Tokico front brake calipers. Weighing in at 214kg – exactly the same as the 1000 – it will retain the bespoke Dunlop Roadsport 2 tyres and 19-litre fuel tank from the full fat version.
The GSX-S1000’s ride-by-wire throttle is also carried over, while a three-mode traction control system, Suzuki’s low RPM assist feature and easy start function will complete the electronics package.
Despite sharing the angular styling and stacked LED headlights of the 1000, the 950 will be distinguished by a distinct logo and unique white and red colour scheme. It will also be available in matt black and a metallic ‘triton blue’ when it goes on sale in August. The price is yet to be revealed, but it is expected to be significantly below the 1000’s £10,999.
