There are two doctrines when it comes to supercar design. Doctrine one being stealthy and understated, much like the Lotus Emira. Doctrine two being much more extroverted and unapologetic in terms of styling and colour choices. There’s virtue found in both routes and the Glickenhaus 004S, debuting at this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, has announced itself as a firm believer in doctrine two. Especially so in its lavish golden livery.
This particular example is actually a customer car. Featuring a brown interior complete with snakeskin print on the three seats to contrast its golden caramel like exterior. The driving position is centred, just like in the McLaren F1, with a light and spacious bubble cockpit to increase visibility and reduce any concerns about claustrophobia when hunkered down so low. From a looks perspective, It’s certainly a head-turner of a car, and one that isn’t easily missed. Which, we presume, is half the job when purchasing a car like this.
Handbuilt in Connecticut and expected to go on sale for £333,903, the 004S is of course the road-legal version of the almost identical Glickenhaus 004C GT3 race car that launched in 2020. Not to be left out, a nifty design feature of the track-focused 004CS spawned from the 004S means it can be quickly modified into a fully homologated race car to boot. Further cementing the firm’s serious belief in racing.
Entirely constructed from carbon-fibre and powered by a mid-mounted LT4 6.2-liter supercharged V8 from their American compatriots at General Motors, the Glickenhaus has an engine that puts down 659PS (484Kw) with a six-speed Graziano manual transmission to deliver ultimate driver engagement.
