Hydrogen racer will be first ever to tackle the Goodwood Hill | GRR
A hydrogen-powered racing car will smoke its tyres on the famous Goodwood Hill for the very first time at the 2021 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard.
MissionH24’s LMPH2G endurance racer will make its competition debut in the Timed Shootout, powered by a four-stack hydrogen fuel cell. This creates the electricity necessary for the four motors that together produce 635PS (467kW) of motive power, good for a top speed of 185mph.
The LMPH2G’s ultimate goal is the hydrogen-only class at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2024 and its technology comes from fuel cell manufacturer Symbio, a subsidiary of Michelin. The company is hoping to prove its technology in competition, with the aim of producing 200,000 fuel cells per year by 2030 – the year which many countries have earmarked for the end of pure petrol and diesel car sales.
When not creating history on the Hill, the LMPH2G will be on display in the Supercar Paddock presented by Michelin. The French manufacturer will also be showcasing its latest racing tyre made from an array of materials including orange and lemon peels, sunflower oils and pine resin. Those burnouts are going to smell delicious.
