The Peugeot 405 Pikes Peak is one of the most famous cars in the Colorado hillclimb’s history, with Ari Vatanen recording a record-setting sprint in 1989, taking just 10m 47.77s to complete the 12.42-mile course.
Unique for its four-wheel-steering, which had never previously been seen in a rally or hillclimb car, the radical 405 Pikes Peak was based on the 1987 Peugeot 205 T16 Pikes Peak, featuring a carbon-kevlar body atop a new sheet and tubular steel chassis.
It’s success was immortalised in the of the 'Climb dance' video of 1989, which won a brace of awards at film festivals around the globe. And in 2013, we welcomed it to the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, where it took on a slightly shorter hillclimb.
