30 Lotus Cortinas to battle for Jim Clark Trophy at 80MM | GRR
In 2023 it will be 60 years since the iconic Lotus Cortina was launched, and what better way to celebrate such a milestone than to race 30 of them around the Goodwood Motor circuit for 45 minutes at the 80th Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport?
Well, that’s exactly what we’re going to do. A two-driver contest with owners and VIP drivers sharing the twin-cam legends as they attack Goodwood at 80MM. Following on from our hugely popular Members’ Meeting one-make races for Ford GT40s, Porsche 911s and Minis, this test will no doubt evoke incredible images of saloon car racing in the 1960s.
And who better to name the race after than Jim Clark? He might be remembered for being one of the most successful F1 drivers of all time, but “Jimmy” spent much of his time racing Ford’s tiny rear-wheel-drive saloons up and down the country, in saloon car races and even in rallies.
In fact, Clark won almost every race that he ever contested in a Cortina and it was at the wheel of the little Lotus added the 1964 British Saloon Car Championship title to his list of achievements.
Cortinas have since become fan favourites at Goodwood, often at the forefront of the Revival’s St. Mary’s Trophy, regularly battling against the big American cars from Ford and Studebaker for glory.
The grid at the 80th Members’ Meeting will be made up of both car owners and VIP drivers drawn from the world of Le Mans, the BTCC and more. At the Revival in 2022 Cortinas were driven by, among others, Andrew Jordan, Stoffel Vandoorne and Craig Breen.
Drivers racing at 80MM will be announced over the coming months.
