What is the best-sounding rally car ever made? There’s a good case to be made for the Audi Quattro, or Impreza WRX STi. Today, though, we’re proposing one undisputed king of rallying vocals: the Lancia Stratos. Just listen to it.
Using the ‘Dino’ Ferrari V6 engine, the Stratos is – to use an overused word – nothing less than an icon. It could even be said this thing is probably one of the greatest-sounding cars in all of motorsport. It’s certainly right up there.
There’s also something surreal to see such an exotic shape, making such an incredible sound, being thrown around city streams and slithered up filthy dirt stages. Something that looks and sounds like a supercar was actaully born for the rough stuff. You’re entitled to your opinions but we don’t think anything tops it for sheer musicality in rallying.
