We’ve just come off the back of an exhilarating weekend of contemporary racing at the eternally epic Spa Francorchamps. So if you’re feeling a bit blue that the always-amazing Spa 24 is over and done with for another year, allow us to placate you with a short sharp dose of ride-along motorsport in the Ardennes. The car: a Ford GT40. The driver: race ace Nicky Pastorelli. The aim: qualify it as high up the grid as possible.

So naturally, Nicky is absolutely on it, putting the thumping V8 ‘60s sportscar onto its sidewalls on a flier around Spa. The view is incredible — we have the driver to the right, Eau Rouge and Raidillon to the left. The car is geared short for mega acceleration and for the perfect top speed around Spa, as the GT40 rattles the top of fifth gear just before the braking zone into La Combe.
Then we’re reminded this is a car you have to dance, using its weight and momentum to perfect the stance on corner entry and balance it throughout, before powering out on the exit. Yet all of that is moot, given we’d be happy to leave the video playing in the background and just enjoy the noise.
