[Video] The Porsche 934/5 is an underrated barking monster | GRR
Porsche’s 934/5 is arguably one of the coolest competition cars of the ‘70s, combining the chassis and engine of the 934 with the wheels, tyres and rear wing configuration of the 935.
Despite being built for IMSA’s Group 4, it actually never made it to the grid – as the organisers banned it before it could compete in its first race. As a result, the 934/5 found itself in the rival SCAA Trans-Am Series, winning 6 out of the 8 races to take the 1977 championship. But in another strike of bad luck, a formal challenge by another competitor stripped the car of its title.
Nonetheless, it’s still a winner in our hearts, and Alexandre Comby´s example, built to the spec of Porsche’s iconic racing model is very cool indeed.
While it features a 2.8-litre air-cooled Flat-six Turbo Engine in the place of the original 3.0-litre, it still puts out 450PS via a four-speed manual gearbox – not bad considering it weighs just 1,050kg.
