The new Lancia Ypsilon borrows its bum from the Stratos | GRR
The Lancia Ypsilon, the company’s first EV, has been revealed following the release of a teaser video earlier this month. Available in electric or petrol form, the former shares its underpinnings with the Peugeot e-208.
Lancia Ypsilon performance and range
With a 51kWh battery, the Ypsilon has an official range of 250 miles – so expect more like 200 on longer drives – and gets from 0-62mph in a nippy 8.2 seconds and hits 93mph flat out, but you can expect it to feel faster than those figures suggest. Charging from 20-80% takes less than 25 minutes using a fast charger.
There’s a hint of 208 to the bowing curve of the Lancia’s body, but enough is done to differentiate the two clearly at the front and back.
Lancia Ypsilon styling and interior
The Lancia has a visor-like shiny black grille with an LED light strip and driving lights housed in a diamond-like headlight unit. The looks are said to be inspired by the Stratos and Delta rally cars, and it’s easy to see the former in the Ypsilon’s circular tail lights.
Lancia’s gone its way with the interior, too, where you’ll find ribbed velvet seats that look utterly sumptuous and a tiny table sprouting from the somewhat odd dashboard. The steering wheel, meanwhile, is leather-bound and flat-bottomed. The interior decor comes as part of a partnership with furniture maker Cassina.
Two infotainment screens come as standard, with menus arranged into widgets that are easy to navigate either on the screen or using voice control.
Lancia Ypsilon price and release date
The Ypsilon will launch in Limited Edition Cassina form, costing £31,000 in countries such as France, Spain and the Netherlands. Lancia will only build 1906 examples of the launch edition model, and whether it will come to the UK has yet to be confirmed.
