Vanwall Vandervell is a £113,000 hatchback | GRR
Vanwall, a famous name in F1 history, current name in sportscar racing’s boutique subset, has unveiled a road car and it’s not exactly what you might have expected. This is the Vandervell S, an all-electric four-door hatchback. Yes, really.
The weirdness doesn’t end there. The hatchback-ness starts and ends with the shape, as everything else is quite supercar-ey, including the price and production numbers. It’ll start from £113,346 and just 500 examples (of the really fast one) are being made. Yes really again.
Admittedly, the Vandervell looks quite nice for what it is, with a sort of Delta Integrale meets Hyundai Ioniq 5 vibe. It’s got chunky arches, unapologetic vents (see the nose, C pillar and rear end) and some rather nice gold seven-spoke 22-inch alloy wheels, wrapped in low-profile tyres.
Two versions are available: the Vandervell S with 320PS (325kW) and a 280-mile range, and the Vandervell S Plus, with 580PS (427kW) and 260 miles of range. Performance is as you’d expect, pretty epic, with 0-62mph coming up in 4.9 seconds and 3.4 seconds respectively. What actually underpins the Vandervell? It’s hard to say, though educated guesses would have Volkswagen’s MEB and Hyundai/Kia’s E-GMP as front runners.
The car is to be built at Vanwall’s Greding production facility, with deliveries set to begin as early as Q3 of this year. Impressive, given what we’re looking at now are renderings.
