[Gallery] Lavant Cup at Revival 2022 | GRR
At the 2022 Goodwood Revival, the Lavant Cup is a celebration of the 60th anniversary of one of the world’s most popular sports cars, the MGB. More than 500,000 of them were built over the car’s 17-year production run.
There was a time when there would be an MGB on almost every street. The result is a wealth of surviving cars and terrific support for owners from parts suppliers and owners’ clubs making it an easy first classic car to own. Most have been retired from daily use now and spent their lives as high days and holidays tourers.
But the picnic basket and tartan rug image were usurped in the Lavant Cup. Instead, we witnessed armfuls of opposite lock, hard-fought competition and plenty of action as the closely matched single-model grid battled its way around the circuit. Amid the grid of roadsters were the ex-Le Mans car of Chris Ryan and the WSM of Tony Spratt-Wilson, the latter having pseudo-exotic styling that’s redolent of much more expensive machinery.
