Corvette E-Ray teased with electric 'Stealth Mode' | GRR
In the land of the Corvette, the C8 train isn’t stopping, as Chevrolet teases the imminent arrival of the first-ever hybrid iteration of its sportscar. Due for reveal on 17th January, the Corvette E-Ray, which is expected to marry looks mostly borrowed from the Z06 (bar the far-apart exhausts) with the pushrod 6.2-litre LT2 V8, electric motors and a battery.
We say motors, though it’s not known how many the E-Ray will get. Given the teaser on ice, it’s heavily implied the E-Ray will be all-wheel-drive, meaning there has to be at least a motor on the front axle.
The Instagram reel footage then cuts to the cabin of the car, as the car enters a city and the driver slides it into ‘Stealth Mode’. We can only assume that’s electric-only, given the quietness implied in the name and the raucus V8 rumble being replaced by the hum of electric power. The tagline ‘One Like None’, refers to the fact that this is a Corvette like no other yet seen, employing electric as well as combustion power.
In terms of performance, with AWD, this could be the most accelerative Corvette yet seen. The V8 we know produces around 500PS (368kW) in the stock Stingray and we expect the electrical elements to add no more than 100PS to that, to keep the E-Ray well clear of the 670PS (423kW) Z06.
