Koenigsegg teases new hypercar | GRR

The ‘ultimate performance’ thing perhaps contradicts the clean design. Koenigsegg’s latest models are easily characterised by their excessive aero addenda, in contrast to this. So what does it all mean? Well, for our money, there are two options. A clean model to go alongside the Jesko and Regera that revives the traditional Koenigsegg silhouette as a celebration of 20 years of Koenigsegg production that began with the CC8S. 

The second option, slightly more left-field but certainly not out of the question in this market, is a restoration programme represented by one of those original CC8S models, pictured here. Pagani announced something similar on its 20^th anniversary while revealing the fully rebuilt Zonda 001, the first car to be restored.

Honestly, after a close inspection of the image, we’re leaning toward option one. The rear lights, clearly visible, have a more modern feel. Even in such a limited image, we can tell the shape is more refined than that of the original CC8S. A tribute? We expect so, but not something old made new. Rather, just something new. We expect this special model will be developed from the Jesko, sharing that car’s twin-turbo V8 engine and nine-speed ‘Light-Speed Transmission’. 

While this revolutionary record-chasing marque did first get going in the 1990s, it wasn’t until 2002 that the first production models were delivered. The CC8S is a true rarity, with just six being sold before the CCR took over in 2004. By the time the CCX series of 2006 finished production in 2010, giving way to the Agera, around 70 Koenigseggs had been produced. Over a decade on, production is circling 200 and is expected to ramp up massively over the coming years with a broader offering of models than ever before.
