The best TV programme of 2017 was without doubt Ten Puppies and Us. The documentary makers followed ten hapless families as they struggled to take care of puppies – one woman in an upstairs flat took on a Leonberger, which was about the size of the living room, while another woman dragged her golden retriever out for walks, debating the whys and wherefores of its refusal to move with it, as if expecting an answer.
