We do the British car industry down at times, and a lot of that is down to two words, British and Leyland, but when you walk around the Best of British section at Goodwood today, you see that we also produced a lot of really good stuff.
You can start with the slightly mad things, like the Lotus Carlton, a car so fast that it was debated in parliament at the time, or perhaps the ultra-hardcore Ariel Atom. Or there’s something a little more stylish and sonorous – an Aston Martin Vanquish.
For something really brand new, but mixed with an element of the past, we’ve got a brilliant Morgan Super 3 in a stunning shade of mustard yellow, which we think is absolutely cracking.
From Rolls-Royce to MG via Bentley and Aston Martin, we’ve got it all. A reminder that the UK has made some really astonishing machines over the past century or so of motoring. So let’s raise a glass of English Sparkling, a snifter of Scotch or some good Welsh bitter to the cars that our sceptred isle has nailed together.
