McLaren Racing to celebrate 60th anniversary at Festival of Speed

07th June 2023

The 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard is to play host to some very special cars and drivers, as part of the celebrations for McLaren Racing’s 60th anniversary. It’s fitting for McLaren to take such a moment of reflection with us, given the marque’s history here, with Goodwood being the personal choice of Bruce McLaren as a venue for testing in the team’s early years.

The Hill will be playing host to some very special reunions as a host of McLaren legends climb back into the cockpit. Mika Häkkinen will drive the incredible MP4/14A with which he took his 1999 championship, while Emerson Fittipaldi will rekindle his relationship with the championship-winning 1974 M23.

Also driving on the Hill will be current McLaren Extreme E driver Emma Gilmour will be taking the wheel of the monstrous M8D Can-Am car, while Emanuele Pirro will be piloting an MP4/2B, a car driven by Alain Prost and Niki Lauda in 1984.

On static display will be the incredible MP4/4, to date the most successful Formula 1 design in history to contest an entire season. Alongside it will be McLaren’s Extreme E show car and the latest Triple Crown livery emblazoned across an F1 show car.

“Goodwood and the Festival of Speed have such an important place in McLaren’s history,” said Zak Brown, McLaren Racing CEO.

“It is the place our story began in many ways, so a fitting place to mark our 60th.  I’m excited to be able to bring such an impressive selection of cars and drivers to celebrate our anniversary in a big way. Our fans are such a huge part of our history; what better way to honour them than giving them the opportunity for a closer look at these icons. It’s going to be a fantastic four days.”

“We’re honoured that McLaren will be joining us at the Festival of Speed this summer to celebrate their 60th anniversary,” said the Duke of Richmond.

“In such a special year for the brand, I know our fans will be thrilled to see the greatest ever collection of cars and drivers from McLaren’s history. As we celebrate 30 years of the Festival of Speed and 75 years of motorsport at Goodwood, we look forward to welcoming McLaren and writing another chapter in our long and shared history.”
