Upright driving positions, skinny tyres and drivers you can see really working at the wheel... that's what you get with the Goodwood Trophy for grand prix cars dating from the early 1930s to the early 1950s.
The earliest car on the grid is a 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C 3200 Monza, the most modern – if that's an appropriate word in this context – a Ferrari 212 from 1952. Sliding is heavily punished with a loss of momentum, but even so there's plenty of sideways action. Despite the spread of two decades, the racing is very close indeed and, without giving too much away, the win was decided by a sprint to the finish line from the chicane on the very last lap.
