Six £60k big‑name classics for sale at SpeedWeek

1993 Aston Martin Virage 6.3 wide body coupe, £40-60,000

It’s the original “brute in a suit” from the 1990s, a rarity in flared-arch wide-body form and the most powerful of the (normally-aspirated) Aston V8 family that began with the Aston V8 in the 1970s.  As well as the wider body, this super-Virage had its engine enlarged to 6.3-litres for 462PS (340kW) and 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds. The top speed was 174mph. There were plenty of  chassis mods to cope with the performance, including what were at the time the largest disc brakes ever fitted to a production car. This bright red example with ivory leather interior has covered 65,576 miles.

1971 Fiat Dino 2400 coupe, £55-65,000

Rare, handsome and with a Ferrari engine under the bonnet, the Fiat coupe was, like the Spider version, conceived as a way of homologating Ferrari’s new four-cam  2.0-litre V6 engine for racing. Five hundred units were needed and since the Ferrari Dino couldn’t achieve that alone, the front-engined Fiat Dino spin-off models were introduced. The coupe, designed by Giugiaro while he was at Bertone, was given a larger 2.4-litre V6 after 1969, with 182PS (134kW) going through a ZF gearbox to a limited-slip diff. This Azzurro Metallizzato left-hand-drive car was professionally restored five years ago and had its most recent service earlier this year.

1995 Ferrari 456 GT, £40-45,000

This Pininfarina vision in metallic green was delivered new in the UK and comes with what every V12 Ferrari should have: a manual gearbox with the classic exposed metal gate. Credited with a top speed of 190mph, the front-engined 2+2 boasted 448PS (329kW) in ’95, enough to make it the most powerful Ferrari road car up to that point, F40 aside. No wonder it was the world’s fastest four-seater. This example is said to have been exceptionally well maintained with 18 services recorded between 1996 at 6,905 miles and 2018 at 64,440 miles.

1927 Rolls-Royce 20HP Brougham de Ville, £50-60,000

Imagine the motoring adventures you could have in this classy 1920s ‘Town Car’ style Rolls-Royce 20, and all for the cost of a medium-sized SUV! The right-hand drive Rolls was delivered new in the US but came to the UK in 1991 and since then has had its engine rebuilt. All its long history is known and well documented, including the provenance of its original and rare American Brewster coachwork. It comes with all the bits and bobs you’d expect: the original instruction book, a full set of keys (including the padlocks on spare wheels and fuel can) and, most important, a period-correct Flying Lady mascot on a correct radiator cap.

1952 Lagonda 2.6 drophead coupe, £50-60,000

The Lagonda 2.6, with its six-cylinder twin-overhead cam engine designed by W.O. Bentley, had been intended as a car to fill a gap in the luxury car market between Jaguar and Rolls-Royce. The elegant British grand touring four-seat convertible does that job just as well today as then, with smart two-tone body, independent suspension all round and, in this car, a retrimmed interior and hood that was replaced in 2013.

1933 Riley 9HP Brooklands Special, £45-55,000

If you have ever fancied getting into vintage sports car racing  here’s possibly the ideal machine to get started. Based on a Riley Nine chassis, it had its engine, chassis, transmission and electrics restored by pre-war Riley specialists in 2014 when it was fitted with an aluminium two-seater body built by Brooklands BodyCraft. The charismatic machine is already a veteran of modern-day events like the Brooklands Double Twelve and the Circuit des Remparts concours in Angoulême, and, says Bonhams,  is today ready to race ­– compete with its VSCC logbook.
