Racing got under way at the 75th Members' Meeting yesterday with both the Derek Bell Cup (Formula 3 cars) and the Gerry Marshall Trophy (Group 1 saloon cars). The latter was a fight into the night, with darkness falling over Goodwood before the chequered flag dropped.

A safety car incident created something of a sprint to the finish for the one-hour, two-driver race. With lights ablaze – and, in the case of the Chevrolet Camaro of Stuart Graham and Nigel Garrett, exhausts often aflame – the grid battled on into the darkness.
A terrific battle between the Mini 1275 GT of Nick Swift and Andrew Jordan and the Escort RS2000 of Mark Blundell and Kerry Michael kept us captivated, but unfortunately both were pushed down the finishing order with 10-second penalty for a false start.
The Chris Ward/Gordon Shedden Rover SD1 took victory, followed onto the podium by the brace of Camaros of Grahame Bryant/Oliver Bryant and Stuart Graham/Nigel Garrett respectively.
