As the most storied name in the sport, Ferrari has the most to play for and the most to lose. All motorsport fans, of Ferrari or not, wince whenever the Scuderia falters. As such, the launch of its ground-up-new car for the new 2022 regulations is one of the most hotly anticipated. Now the wait is over – this is the Ferrari F1-75.

The Ferrari appears to have a slighter higher nose than is conventional, aiding the movement of air into the venturi tunnels for the ground effect. The front wing itself looks very aggressive, loading out from the centre, dropping sharply before the endplates. The dark red nose cone itself bleeds down into the bottom element giving the impression the nose is lower, with a small NACA duct appearing below the prancing horse badge.

The sidepod inlets stretch out wide but with a slimmer opening than others. Though the pods themselves look chunky when viewed directly from the sides, when viewed from above, they contour down guiding air out above the lower wing – a very interesting design that’s so far entirely unique to the Ferrari for this season. Within those valleys are vents similar to those we saw on the flat-topped Aston sidepods.

The top air inlet is slimmer than many we’ve seen so far, with a triangular look returning along with side fins and a more full-bodied shark fin behind than we’ve yet seen. Suspension-wise, it’s push-front and pull-rear as used before.

Moving away from the technical aspects of the car, we have to talk about that livery. It’s the early 1990s all over again, as we return to a dark red main colour, with black splitter, lower side and wing elements. Mission Winnow branding is gone, along with the brighter Rosso hue. It’s elegant and easily rivals the Aston for the best look that we’ve yet seen. What do you think of the Ferrari F1-75? Will the Scuderia be back to fighting for wins once again in 2022?
