Five litres, 12 cylinders. That’s why the Ferrari 512 is called the 512. Five-twelve, get it?
Video: On board a screaming Ferrari 512 S
One thing you always expect from a Ferrari, especially one fitted with a V12, is noise. And the 512 gave you that in absolute spades. So it’s wonderful to hear the quality of the audio on this onboard clip of a Ferrari 512 S at the Monza Historic.
The car here, this weekend in the hands of Pierre Mellinger and Tommaso Gelmini, is the one that finished third in the 1,000km race right here at Monza back in 1970 in the hands of the legendary John Surtees. It would then go on to star in Steve McQueen’s Le Mans.
Now it’s here at Monza for the Historic, and while it’s not challenging any of the leading cars this weekend it is one of the most amazing sounding cars here. That big V12 absolutely on song lap after lap, and in this video you get every decibel that makes its way into the cabin. It’s utterly glorious.
