Racing at Le Mans always requires some ingenuity. There’s a lot of thinking outside the box that goes into creating a racing car that will make it through 24 hours of solid racing, and perhaps win.

But some cars that have raced at Le Mans have been so far outside the box that they deserve some kind of recognition. Some of these have been very successful, take the Bugatti Type 57G Tank or Mazda’s 787B that won the whole thing. One was designed with no intention of even finishing, just breaking a record – from WM and Peugeot. And some were… less successful.
