We’re back at Daytona after a few years away and are very happy to find that the cars here have only got cooler while we’ve been absent. If you’re heading down to the track today or tomorrow, or just interested from afar, we thought we’d put together a list of the cars that immediately caught our eyes.
Video: Onboard Mercedes SLS GT3 chucked round Daytona
And hammering around is exactly what he's doing. This is practice for the weekend's racing, but that doesn't mean Lux is going to baby the big V8 Merc around – he's hunting for laptimes. And, because he's more than used to driving these modern racing cars, Lux is able to lean on the tyres more than some of those around him. That means he's dispatching not just a bunch of other GT3 cars – and the odd Trans-Am machine – but even a few prototype machines that in his hands would be heroicaly fast.
And it's all soundtracked by that big AMG derived V8 engine that sits snugly under the SLS's bonnet. The Merc may be most well known for being the modern interpretation of the company's Gullwing design, but the noise that it makes is just as important to just how cool this car really is.
